| Of all the behind the scenes documentary
projects I've done, probably the most enjoyable, in terms of just pure fun, was
"Twins". This comedy film from the prolific and talented Ivan Reitman gave the
world one of the most unusual comedy pairings ever: Arnold Schwartzneger and Danny DeVito
as twin brothers born of a genetic experiment gone wrong, separated at birth, and brought
back together when Arnold's almost super-human character goes on a hunt for his long lost
brother. Documentary writer/producer Mark Fitzgearld, soundman Galen Handy and I shot a total of 28 days, from April through July 1988, gathering footage for a full length documentary as well as the usual press kit material. We worked so much on the project that the cast and crew began to refer to us as the "3rd Unit". In fact, we were actually working directly for Reitman Productions and took our calls from the show's Production Manager. We practically lived with the production, including traveling with them to the Santa Fe, New Mexico location where a number of important scenes took place. This was probably one of the happiest productions I've ever seen.
The chemistry and interaction between director Reitman, stars Schwartzneger, DeVito, Kelly
Preston and Chloe Webb was light, fun and easy. More importantly it worked extremely well
on the screen. The stills on this page, taken from my behind the scenes work, show some of
the many laugh filled moments. |
